Artist Chris Ware's rejected cover for Fortune Magazine :

Why was it rejected? Boing Boing explains :
(Chris Ware) filled the image with tons of satirical imagery, like the U.S. Treasuring being raided by Wall Street, China dumping money into the ocean, homes being flooded, homes being foreclosed, and CEOs dancing a jig while society devolves into chaos.

WhaddaYaMean We're The Bad Guys?

This stunning, but true, summary of 65 years of American War from Australian journalist John Pilger appears on Reddit :
Since 1945, the United States has overthrown fifty governments, including democracies, and crushed some 30 liberation movements, and supported tyrannies and set up torture chambers from Egypt to Guatemala. Countless men, women and children have been bombed to death
This is taken from the reality-rocking Pilger documentary The War On Democracy, which you can watch online here for free.

How To Turn A Boy Into A Killer

Bill Willers :

In 1983, the National Film Board of Canada produced a 57-minute film, "Anybody's Son Will Do". Arguably the best anti-war film ever made, and tailored for public television, it scared the hell out of the U.S. military machine, which has done its best to "disappear" it. For years it has been nearly impossible to find a copy, but some kind soul has posted it on YouTube where it can be seen in six segments.

The film shows the process by which young men become psychologically engineered to kill or die on command. While the model used is the U.S. Marine Corps, it's made clear that the modern techniques for creating soldiers are refined, dehumanizing and universal.

This stunning documentary, showing how recruits are turned into Marines at Parris Island, provided director Stanley Kubrick with almost the entire first half of his seminal 1987 war movie, Full Metal Jacket, from lines of dialogue to even duplications of how scenes were framed and filmed. The difference, of course, is that this documentary is the real thing.

From Part Three :
"Freedom has a price, and I believe this and I preach it, freedom has one price, and history bears me out...there is only one price freedom will accept. And that's blood."
All Six Parts Of 'Anybody's Son Will Do' Can Be Seen Here

she has been suffering from Morgellons disease :
"[It's a] weird, incurable disease that seems like it's from outer space.

"Fibres in a variety of colors protrude out of my skin like mushrooms after a rainstorm: they cannot be forensically identified as animal, vegetable or mineral. Morgellons is a slow, unpredictable killer – a terrorist disease: it will blow up one of your organs, leaving you in bed for a year."
But what part of the Mitchell interview grabs the headline? The fact that she called Bob Dylan a fraud.

The Death Of World Trade Centre 7

WTC7 was the third New York City skyscraper to fall on September 11, 2001.

Reporter Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, writing for Fox News, was there that day, he remembers the collapse of WTC7 :
"I remember watching all 47 stories of Building 7 suddenly and silently crumble before my eyes.

"Shortly before the building collapsed, several NYPD officers and Con-Edison workers told me that Larry Silverstein, the property developer of One World Financial Center was on the phone with his insurance carrier to see if they would authorize the controlled demolition of the building..."

More from Shapiro :
While I was talking with a fellow reporter and several NYPD officers, Building 7 suddenly collapsed, and before it hit the ground, not a single sound emanated from the tower area. There were no explosives; I would have heard them. In fact, I remember that in those few seconds, as the building sank to the ground that I was stunned by how quiet it was.
Another eyewitness to the collapse of WTC7, NYPD officer Craig Bartmer :
"...all of a sudden the radios exploded and everyone started screaming ‘get away, get away, get away from it!’… It was at that moment… I looked up, and it was nothing I would ever imagine seeing in my life. The thing started pealing in on itself… Somebody grabbed my shoulder and I started running, and the shit’s hitting the ground behind me, and the whole time you’re hearing boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.”
Paul Joseph Watson :
In February of 2002 Silverstein Properties won $861 million from Industrial Risk Insurers to rebuild on the site of WTC 7. Silverstein Properties’ estimated investment in WTC 7 was $386 million. This building’s collapse alone resulted in a payout of nearly $500 million, based on the contention that it was an unforeseen accidental event.

The War On You....Or Dave

By Darryl Mason

Since the 9/11 attacks, Al Qaeda as a legitimate threat to Americans, and the American way of life, and even American values, has proven to be something of a washout.

Yes, terrorists supposedly inspired or influenced by Al Qaeda have tried to attack Americans inside the US, and depending on how you view events like the Fort Hood shootings, dozens have been killed. But as a real actual day-to-day threat to the American way of life....well, Al Qaeda have done a pretty shit job of it.

The FBI, like the CIA, like the Pentagon, has to justify their massive budgets. They have to be able to prove, year in, year out, that they are spending taxpayers money on important work, vital work, life-saving work. That they are, in fact, Keeping Americans Safe. If they don't, budgets get slashed, people lose their jobs.

So if Al Qaeda don't measure up anymore as a viable threat to Americans, then who does?

How about You?

Or your neighbour?

Or that guy down the street? Whatshisname?

Dave? Yeah, Dave.

Fuckit. Why not just declare The War On Dave?

Who's Dave? Doesnt' matter. But he wants to kill you and threaten your way of life. Or something.

This is how The War On Dave is being sold in the UK, by the Rupert Murdoch media :

Fifteen years after the Oklahoma City bombing, the spectre of domestic terrorism has returned to haunt the Obama Administration, with a warning from the FBI that “home-grown and lone-wolf extremists” now represent as serious a threat as al-Qaeda and its affiliates.

The warning, from the FBI Director, Robert Mueller, came as the former President Clinton drew parallels between the Oklahoma City tragedy and a recent upsurge in anti-government rhetoric, while American television audiences heard Timothy McVeigh, the Oklahoma City bomber, describe the “absolute rage” that drove him to plan an attack that killed 168 men, women and children.

An FBI spokesman told The Times yesterday that Mr Mueller was referring to right-wing extremist groups and anti-government militias, as well as American Islamists, in his testimony to the Senate committee that must approve the FBI’s $8.3 billion (£5.4 billion) budget.

The White House was careful to emphasise that the threat of external terrorism remained acute but senior officials are privately confident that military operations in Afghanistan are going well and putting al-Qaeda on the back foot. Few people in Washington are as confident about the domestic threat.
Timothy McVeigh, and all those people killed in the Oklahoma bombings, are now a marketing opportunity for the FBI.

The average American is more likely to be killed, or wounded, by a KFC Double Down burger than by 'home grown terrorists'.

Obama Promises "No More Taxpayer Bailouts" For Banks & Financial Institutions That Claim To Be "Too Big To Fail"

"We Will Hold Wall Street Accountable"

President Obama promised he would reform Wall Street, and now he's set to move in hard, and fast. His plans are upsetting both Democrats and Republicans. It will be fascinating to see how this unfolds, and just how much of what he is promising, he can actually deliver. Luckily for him, Obama doesn't get around in light aircraft.

The reaction of Fox News will be predictable enough. But take the time to check out how the rest of the mainstream corporate media deals with this. He's about to make himself a whole tidal wave of new enemies.

Transcript :
There were many causes of the turmoil that ripped through our economy over the past two years. But above all, this crisis was caused by failures in the financial industry. What is clear is that this crisis could have been avoided if Wall Street firms were more accountable, if financial dealings were more transparent, and if consumers and shareholders were given more information and authority to make decisions.

But that did not happen. And that's because special interests have waged a relentless campaign to thwart even basic, common-sense rules - rules to prevent abuse and protect consumers. In fact, the financial industry and its powerful lobby have opposed modest safeguards against the kinds of reckless risks and bad practices that led to this very crisis.

The consequences of this failure of responsibility - from Wall Street to Washington - are all around us: 8 million jobs lost, trillions in savings erased, countless dreams diminished or denied. I believe we have to do everything we can to ensure that no crisis like this ever happens again. That's why I'm fighting so hard to pass a set of Wall Street reforms and consumer protections. A plan for reform is currently moving through Congress.

Here's what this plan would do. First, it would enact the strongest consumer financial protections ever. It would put consumers back in the driver's seat by forcing big banks and credit card companies to provide clear, understandable information so that Americans can make financial decisions that work best for them.

Next, these reforms would bring new transparency to financial dealings. Part of what led to this crisis was firms like AIG and others making huge and risky bets - using things like derivatives - without accountability. Warren Buffett himself once described derivatives bought and sold with little oversight as "financial weapons of mass destruction." That's why through reform we'd help ensure that these kinds of complicated financial transactions take place on an open market. Because, ultimately, it is a marketplace that is open, free, and fair that will allow our economy to flourish.

We would also close loopholes to stop the kind of recklessness and irresponsibility we've seen. It's these loopholes that allowed executives to take risks that not only endangered their companies, but also our entire economy. And we're going to put in place new rules so that big banks and financial institutions will pay for the bad decisions they make - not taxpayers. Simply put, this means no more taxpayer bailouts. Never again will taxpayers be on the hook because a financial company is deemed "too big to fail."

Finally, these reforms hold Wall Street accountable by giving shareholders new power in the financial system. They'll get a say on pay: a vote on the salaries and bonuses awarded to top executives. And the SEC will ensure that shareholders have more power in corporate elections, so that investors and pension holders have a stronger voice in determining what happens with their life savings.

Now, unsurprisingly, these reforms have not exactly been welcomed by the people who profit from the status quo - as well their allies in Washington. This is probably why the special interests have spent a lot of time and money lobbying to kill or weaken the bill. Just the other day, in fact, the Leader of the Senate Republicans and the Chair of the Republican Senate campaign committee met with two dozen top Wall Street executives to talk about how to block progress on this issue.

Lo and behold, when he returned to Washington, the Senate Republican Leader came out against the common-sense reforms we've proposed. In doing so, he made the cynical and deceptive assertion that reform would somehow enable future bailouts - when he knows that it would do just the opposite. Every day we don't act, the same system that led to bailouts remains in place - with the exact same loopholes and the exact same liabilities. And if we don't change what led to the crisis, we'll doom ourselves to repeat it. That's the truth. Opposing reform will leave taxpayers on the hook if a crisis like this ever happens again.

So my hope is that we can put this kind of politics aside. My hope is that Democrats and Republicans can find common ground and move forward together. But this is certain: one way or another, we will move forward. This issue is too important. The costs of inaction are too great. We will hold Wall Street accountable. We will protect and empower consumers in our financial system. That's what reform is all about. That's what we're fighting for. And that's exactly what we're going to achieve.

You thought Obama's health reforms were a down and dirty shitfight?

You ain't seen nothing yet.

"You Can't Even Have A Beard Anymore In This Country Without Being Called A Fucking Terrorist!"

By Darryl Mason

A stunning, downright shocking glimpse of the reality behind so many of those news stories you see where someone leaves court and "turns on the media".

An Australian mainstream TV news cameraman ambushes a father and son outside a Sydney court. When the cameraman doesn't get the response he wants, he clearly calls the father (who has begged him politely and repeatedly to stop following them), a "fucking terrorist", sparking this response from the son :
Calling my dad a terrorist! Who the fuck are you to call him a terrorist? Why are you calling him a terrorist? ‘Cos he has a beard and ‘cos he’s Muslim? It’s what it comes down to? Is that what you guys have brung us down to? You can’t even have a beard in this country any more without being called a fucking terrorist! Have some fucking self-decency. The man has never been to court in his life and you’re calling him a terrorist! You’re calling him a terrorist and he’s never been to court in his life. Is that what it’s come down to?”
Here's the extraordinary video.

This is the 'quality mainstream media' we are supposed to be mourning as it spirals into a deeper death cycle? Good riddance.

This is not reporting the news, this is creating it, forcing reactions and then cutting the context when it airs, purposely, to make all Muslims seem crazed and fiery and dangerous.

Fucking repulsive stuff.

Like you no doubt are, I'm amazed at the restraint shown by the son, particularly with that grinning moron of a soundman standing there, loving every minute of it.

How did he hold back from clocking this fuck?

The cameraman, Simon Fuller, kept his job at Channel 9 for more than 10 days after the incident, and was only stood down when the full footage was aired on ABC's Media Watch.

There's Big Money In Fearing Up Americans

By Darryl Mason

Sarah Palin had nothing to do with the genesis of The Tea Party, but she's successfully glommed onto it and exploited it for everything she can get. And she got plenty. Just like Glenn Beck.

Which is why I keep saying that Fox News is the home of wealthy media elites who con poor Americans into campaigning on their behalf for them to pay less tax, by exploiting their fears and vulnerabilities.

I'm not sure why the US mainstream media have gone nuts over Palin, and promoted her so heavily. What has she really got to offer, besides cliches, fear-mongering and sarcasm? Where exactly are all her ideas?

The Republicans, along with the Democrats, helped by Rupert Murdoch, will do everything they can to prevent the rise of a legitimate and powerful third party in American politics.

Divide and conquer, the strategy that always seems to work.

And they've only just begun.
"The Only Way You Can Get An Elephant To Stand On Its Head Is From Fear Of Pain"

When Words Are Weapons....

Philip K Dick, 1978 :
"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words. George Orwell made this clear in his novel 1984. But another way to control the minds of people is to control their perceptions. If you can get them to see the world as you do, they will think as you do. Comprehension follows perception."
Interesting piece on how governments, media and political enemies use the word "terrorism" for any number of agendas, from vilification to simply jazzing up an otherwise confusing news story.
...more is at stake here than semantics or petty point-scoring in the blogosphere. Political violence has two elements: the act, and the meaning attached to it. Long after the smoke of an explosion has cleared, the battle over language goes on, as contending sides seek to aggrandize the act or dismiss it, portray it as noble or denounce it as vile.

“The use of the term terrorism delegitimizes the opponent,” said Martha Crenshaw, a scholar at Stanford who wrote her first essay wrestling with the definition of terrorism in 1972. “It’s not just the tactics that are discredited, it’s the cause, as well.”

US President Ronald Reagan, in 1986, on the adage 'one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter' :
"That’s a catchy phrase, but also misleading. Freedom fighters do not need to terrorize a population into submission. Freedom fighters target the military forces and the organized instruments of repression keeping dictatorial regimes in power. Freedom fighters struggle to liberate their citizens from oppression and to establish a form of government that reflects the will of the people.”
Of course, Reagan's freedom fighters in the Afghanistan War againnt the Soviets went on to form the Taliban and found (with the help and hype of US intelligence agencies) the terrorist outfit now known as Al Qaeda.

Tragic Plane Crash, or Decapitation Strike?

Polish President, Government Wiped Out

The Question Mark Can Be Removed From That Front Page Now

By Darryl Mason

Another horrific plane crash kills everybody onboard.

But this is unlike any other plane crash in recent history.

This plane crash at an airport in Russia ended the life of the president of Poland, the country's most senior Army officer, the president's wife, the most senior members of Poland's government, the head of Poland's central bank....put it this way, Russia would not be totally displeased by what would be referred to in conspiratorial thriller fiction as a "decapitation strike".
President Lech Kaczynski and scores of other senior Polish figures have been killed in a plane crash in Russia.

Poland's army chief, central bank governor, MPs and leading historians were among more than 80 passengers.
The Warsaw Voice on April 7 ripped the Polish government over a gambling industry related lobbying scandal :
I wouldn't be surprised if the polls in coming weeks once again show that 70 percent of Polish citizens have a negative opinion on the work of parliament and the government....
The Warsaw Voice's prescient front page, from April 7, still online five hours after the confirmed death of President Kaczynski :

The opposition leader, and now acting president of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski (above), could be called "a friend of Russia."

The now very dead Polish President Kaczynski on March 7, 2010 :

While it may well turn out to be the true cause of the plane crash that wiped out the government of Poland today, CNN spent an inordinate amount of time detailing the bad weather near the airport where the president's plane crashed. Then again, they didn't have much more information to fill out their bulletins in the first few hours after the plane went down.

But presidential planes do get shot down, or brought down, sometimes.

For now, all is speculation.

But April 11, 2010, will prove to be one very fucking interesting day indeed in the history of the 21st century.

Here's what a horrific plane crash aftermath looks like in Russia :

Here's what a horrific plane crash aftermath looks like in the US :

They Live Amongst Us

Are beings from other worlds hiding out on Planet Earth, disguised as humans?

A poll of more than 23,000 people in 22 countries reveals an astounding number believe the answer is "Yes!"

....more than 40 per cent of people from India and China believe that alien life exists with a human facade on this planet.

Men were more likely to believe in extra-terrestrial life than women with 22 per cent convinced compared to 17 per cent of women.

Although most of those who do believe in aliens were under 35 they came from all incomes and classes.

Sounds pretty positive for The Plan that may eventually unite the world against a soon to be mega-hyped 'Extraterrestrial Threat', to replace the fading 'War On Terror'.

Put it this way, if you believe what you read in the mainstream newspapers, the idea of an extraterrestrial presence hurling comet chunks and meteors at Planet Earth won't seem so nutty by 2012.

It will be one way to make the reality of Major Weapons In Space acceptable to the majority.

At 8 mins in, it's clear for anybody to see the van has pulled up to take the injured to hospital. There are no weapons visible. One young American practically begs for permission to kill them all.

Incredible. The New York Times headline calls this massacre a "firefight", except only one side was doing the shooting.

Why Israel Should Thank Obama

Gideon Levy argues that US President Obama's fading patience with Israel, and his intolerance of ever-expanding settlements and frustration at further dodges of peace-talk commitments, is exactly how a true friend should be acting :
Obama is asking Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and through him every Israeli, to finally speak the truth. He's asking Netanyahu and the rest of us: What on earth do you actually want? Enough with the misleading answers; the moment of truth is here. Enough with the tricks - a neighborhood here, a settlement expansion there. Just tell us: Where are you heading? Do you want to go on receiving unprecedented aid from the United States, do you want to become part of the Middle East, do you want to achieve peace?

Obama, faithful for the time being to the great promise he made when he was elected, is no longer willing to put up with the deceit.

The Israelis should be thankful to Obama for holding a mirror in front of them and saying that this is how your continuous deception looks. The Israelis should be just as thankful to Obama for being the first president ready to make Israel pay for its responsibility in maintaining the status quo. This is an American innovation supported by a shifting mood in world politics.

Take heed: The world is beginning to demand that Israel take responsibility for its actions in Dubai and Sheikh Jarrah, in Operation Cast Lead and Ramat Shlomo. From America and Europe, the time of responsibility and payback has arrived.

After 43 years of a vicious occupation, these, too, are minimal demands. Obama didn't humiliate Israel. Israel humiliated itself for a generation, thinking it could do whatever it wanted - talk peace and build settlements, entrench an occupation and still be considered a democracy, while living on American support and rejecting its requests. Since all of Obama's demands should have come from Israel itself, Obama is merely acting the way a friend should act.

Washington Post's Plan To Limit Anonymous Comments

The Washington Post, this story claims, receives more than 320,000 comments a month across blogs, stories and opinion columns. Each day, some 300 comments are deleted, after being flagged by readers or deemed inappropriate by moderators.

The Washington Post has decided that free anonymous comments by readers are too important to its business model to do away with completely, but they're now working on a upvote/downvote system favoured by aggregators like Reddit.
In a few months, The Post will implement a system that should help. It's still being developed, but Straus said the broad outlines envision commenters being assigned to different "tiers" based on their past behavior and other factors. Those with a track record of staying within the guidelines, and those providing their real names, will likely be considered "trusted commenters." Repeat violators or discourteous agitators will be grouped elsewhere or blocked outright. Comments of first-timers will be screened by a human being.

When visitors click to read story comments, only those from the "trusted" group will appear. If they want to see inflammatory or off-topic comments from "trolls," they'll need to click to access a different "tier."

Whose going to bother reading the "troll" pages? Presumably the plan is that those who come only to shout and hurl abuse will tire quickly of never having their comments reach "the trusted group" and will go away.

As you may, or may not, recall, the Masters Of The Universe was a popular kids TV show, comic book and toy series in the 1980s. But it didn't take long for the creators to run out of new characters.

As i09 hilariously highlights the inspiration well ran blahingly dry, but Mattel kept pumping out new characters because the kids couldn't get enough of the toys. No matter how shitty they were.

“What is in America? Who gives a fuck what anyone thinks? I don’t give a fuck what they think and if I don’t get a film role because my teeth are crooked, then fuck them, I don’t want it. Why would I fucking do that, you fucking shallow cunt!’ I hate them, and I hate that people think that I would. It makes me angry. I remember when a newspaper said, ‘He’s lost three stone for Hollywood.’ I went, ‘No, I haven’t lost three stone and I would never fucking do it for Hollywood. I did it ’cos I work out and I wanna be fit.’ And that annoys me. Someone said, ‘I saw him in The Ivy and he was having a salad.’ ‘Yeah, I had a salad.
